Hetta Falzon – Thank God It’s Mum’s (Live from London Pianos)

“I’d almost grown to love the child of divorce Christmas. It meant two trees, two Christmas dinners, two households full of joy and Michael Buble, but it also meant spending Christmas Eve in the car, decorating empty houses and a coldness in moments that are supposed to bring warmth. Last year was the first time in a very long time that I only had one Christmas, at Mum’s. It was sort of wonderful to only be surrounded by love and merriness and warmth. I felt like a kid again, in the best way, but at the same time it was a real kick in the teeth, to not be a part of Dad’s and not feel particularly missed. I recorded this song as a voice memo on Christmas Day last year, a day I spent surrounded by loved ones, which only made other absences feel stronger.”
